The Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General, Lagos State Treasury Office (STO), Dr. Abiodun Muritala, has enjoined all Directors of Finance and Accounts (DFAs) not to reduce themselves to ordinary cashiers but, instead, make themselves a force to reckon with in the overall administration of their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The Accountant-General gave the charge during the Y2022 first-quarter technical meeting held on Tuesday with all Directors and Heads of Finance and Accounts Departments in the various government establishments at STO Resource Centre, Alausa, Ikeja.

Dr. Muritala urged the participants to be an integral part of the decision-making process in matters affecting their respective MDAs.

Emphasising the need for Accountants to be thorough in the discharge of their duties, the Accountant-General pleaded with his colleagues to always ensure that the younger Finance and Accounts officers are adequately supervised in carrying out their assigned schedule.

He solicited that government expenses should not be delayed or denied based on perceived lackadaisical attitude on the part of Finance and Account Officers, adding that personnel must always be guided by the fact that they are representatives of the Office of Accountant-General in their respective MDAs.

Muritala also advised the Directors and Heads of Finance and Accounts Departments to always insist on strict adherence to the provisions of Financial Regulations while presenting necessary supporting documents to vouchers for speedy processing of approvals, just as he implored them to counsel their Principals about the implications of following due process according to laid down procedures.

He seized the opportunity of the meeting to restate the commitment of the State Treasury Office to periodic training of Officers on the use of Oracle software for effective and efficient processing of financial transactions.
